Ten in the Bed and Little Red Hen

We have started learning how to do takeaway sums. We are really enjoying it and finding it a lot easier than we thought! We read the story of 'Ten in the Bed' to begin learning about subtraction. We then made up actions to the song and acted it out. It was lots of fun with everyone falling out of the bed!
This really helped us to learn the concept of 'how many are left?'

We've been learning all about how bread is made from the story of The Little Red Hen. We retold the group all the different steps that are needed from planting the grain to baking the bread.

Another part of the story that we thought was very important was about friends helping each other. The animals in the story were too lazy to help Little Red Hen until it was time to eat the bread!!

We acted out the story with finger puppets and added our twists and endings. We even had twin hens!

We also wrote apology letters to Little Red Hen on behalf of the animals. We discussed apologies and different ways to show others you are sorry and that you care. We felt that writing a letter of apology is a lovely way to say sorry to someone.
